Memphis hasn’t made a Premier League start under Jose Mourinho and his last first team appearance dates back to an eight minute cameo against Fenerbahce in November.
The Dutchman has been strongly linked with a move to Everton in recent weeks, whilst also receiving interest from Porto manager Nuno Espírito Santo.
And according to Emre Sarigul, Fenerbahce have joined the race to acquire the winger’s services on loan.
Memphis’ highlights for this season include seven uninspiring, ineffectual cameos from the bench and 55 torrid minutes against Northampton Town before being hooked off by Mourinho.
To say that Memphis has reached an impasse at Old Trafford is a dramatic understatement. The 22-year-old is bereft of confidence, shaky on the ball and miles away from the starting XI.
Lurking in anonymity for the next few months will only exacerbate the Dutchman’s morose predicament, and a chance to impose himself in a different environment seems like the only viable way to rectify his ailing career. Sometimes in life you need a fresh start – a chance to hit the reset button. And United fans will hope that Memphis restores some much needed confidence elsewhere during the second half of the season.
