Jose Mourinho: I will let Memphis and Schneiderlin leave in the January transfer window

Jose Mourinho has confirmed Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin will be given a chance to find new clubs during the January transfer window.

It was confirmed earlier today that Schneiderlin, yet to make a Premier League start this season, would undergo a medical at Everton.

Memphis has also been linked with a move to Everton, with Ronald Koeman openly expressing desire to sign the Dutchman, whilst also receiving interest from the likes of Porto and Feyenoord.

Mourinho, speaking ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Reading, confirmed that the pair would be allowed to leave if Man United receive the right offer.

“Their situation is exactly the same,” he said. “I will allow them to leave the club, I will allow them to leave if the right offer comes and until this moment, no.”

“We are waiting for something that a couple of weeks ago looked 100 per cent. In this moment, it looks like zero per cent because we don’t have any offer that is close to the quality the players have.”

Schneiderlin’s predicament, notably murky over the last few months, appears to be pretty straightforward all of a sudden. Koeman will be desperate to acquire the Frenchman’s services heading into the business end of the season, and one imagines that a higher bid than the rejected £19m will be made imminently. For a player that looked perfect for United just a year ago, his descent into anonymity has been hard to watch.

Memphis’ situation, on the other hand, is more ambiguous: various clubs have expressed an interest in giving the depleted Dutchman a chance to rectify his ailing career, but no concrete offers have been made as of yet, with Koeman addressing his lack of options on the wing by signing Ademola Lookman. United fans will be curious to see where Memphis finds himself by the end of the month.
