Manchester United 4-0 Reading: Player ratings

by Leo Nieboer

Sergio Romero 6 – Had more or less nothing to do against a blunt-edged Reading side.

Ashley Young 7 – Offered plenty of energy and drive on the right flank all afternoon. Remarkably solid on the back foot.

Marcos Rojo 6 – Enjoyed a largely trouble-free start before hobbling off with injury after just 18 minutes.

Chris Smalling 7 – Comfortably dealt with Yann Kermorgant and even ignited several attacks with a series of superb balls forward

Daley Blind 6 – Occasionally struggled with Garath McCleary’s raw speed but still managed to provide plenty of enterprise and control on the left hand side.

Michael Carrick 8 – Just incredible. Serenaded his usual composure and poise with an array of wonderful balls forward. Completely controlled the game.

Marouane Fellaini 7 – Quietly very solid at the base of midfield, ensuring that Reading’s midfield never settled as Carrick pulled the strings.

Wayne Rooney 7 – A memorable day for the captain: equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s record with a well taken strike and produced a lively display in behind Rashford.

Juan Mata 6 – A busy, enterprising performance from the Spaniard, replete with smart touches and precise passes. Should have been more clinical in front of goal.

Anthony Martial 8 – A textbook Martial performance: ruthless, powerful and a joy to watch. Decimated Chris Gunter from start to finish.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Capped off a sensational performance at No.9 with a well-deserved brace. Jose Mourinho’s side look irresistible with the 19-year-old leading the line.

Substitutes

Phil Jones 6 – Continued his excellent run of form with another composed performance alongside Smalling after coming on with just 18 minutes on the clock.
