Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Jose Mourinho deserves credit for my form at Manchester United

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic insists a special training programme devised by Jose Mourinho is the reason behind his brilliant form.

The big Swede has already scored 18 goals in 28 appearances across all competitions since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and despite suffering one of the worst goal-scoring droughts of his career earlier in the campaign, has already beaten Anthony Martial‘s record from last season as the club’s top goal scorer.

He’s been one of our best performers under Mourinho and both parties have already publicly spoken about extending his Old Trafford contract following his spectacular start.

Speaking about his brilliant displays, Ibrahimovic credited Mourinho and his coaching staff for settling him into life in England.

“I feel good. I feel in shape,” he said.

“The boss has made a good programme for me since the start. He has been adapting my physical point of view and the way I can play every game. He has to get the credit for that.

“The mixture between training, recovery and the game, I do it differently, and he set it up for me. So that’s why I can hold out for so long. And, when you have a body like me, it’s not a normal body. It’s like when you see an animal. It goes in and is fresh always so I see myself as an animal.”

Ibrahimovic has played a key role in United’s recent run of excellent form and a rest against Reading would have done well to keep him in top condition.

The statistics show Zlatan hasn’t missed many games in his career, but there’s no doubt a rest will allow him maintain his top form in the Premier League and help United close the gap on the top four.
