Phil Jones explains his impressive form under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

Manchester United defender Phil Jones insists he has returned from injury at Manchester United feeling better than ever before.

The Englishman has endured a tough time at Old Trafford, suffering a host of injuries, but claims altering his outlook on the game is a big part of overcoming the psychological element.

He has kickstarted his career under Jose Mourinho after fans believed he could have left the club following his last injury but it’s visible that Mourinho’s belief in Jones has paid off.

Speaking about his changes, Jones claims he’s playing with much more confidence underneath the Portuguese boss.

“Much of it is in the head. Even if I’m feeling a bit sore, a bit fatigued, I say to myself ‘Get out on the pitch,’ I always feeling better for doing that. In the past I might have said, ‘I’m feeling a bit tight i’ll stay in,'” he said.

“I learned from Rio Ferdinand and saw what he was doing.

“I now do yoga and do the Reformer Pilates machine. Maybe I was doing stuff in the past that I thought worked but didn’t.

“The first conversation I had with him Mourinho said “F***ing hell you’re fit,” I then briefly did my knee after landing awkwardly.

“He (Mourinho) stuck by me, he’s always giving me confidence.”

He’s changed up his key exercises and looked up to Rio Ferdinand on ways to develop his game, a player that United fans will always remember, following his spectacular displays in the centre of defence.

Hopes are he can keep himself fit as he’s played a vital role in our unbeaten run and there’s no doubt that Jones will be looking to extend the run against Liverpool to Old Trafford this weekend.
