Anthony Martial reveals his favourite moment at Manchester United

Anthony Martial has revealed that his greatest moment at Manchester United came during his debut against Liverpool back in 2015.

The Frenchman, who had arrived at Old Trafford for £36m, came on against Liverpool and, with his first meaningful involvement, took the ball past the entire back four and scored one of the most memorable goals seen at Old Trafford in recent years.

It was an earth-shattering moment, and one that emphatically silenced those who labelled the teenager as a “waste of money” upon his arrival less than two weeks before.

And Martial, when asked about his favourite goal at Man United, was quick to recall the goal against Liverpool as the finest moment of his career so far.

“It has to be the one against Liverpool on my United debut,” he said. “Hopefully, I can score against them again.”

Sometimes football can serve up moments so great, so significant and wonderful, that you leave the stadium with a genuinely renewed mindset – almost as if you feel untouchable: yes, bad things happen, but you now have that moment of pure, unadulterated euphoria to reflect on, to enjoy over and over again in your head.

For me, and indeed for many others around the world, Martial’s goal against Liverpool was one of those moments. The graceful seamlessness of the teenager, with the footballing world scrutinising his every move, as he glided past Liverpool’s back four, followed by that unforgettable roar of sheer elation and joy all across Old Trafford – the loudest it has been for years – was a moment I will cherish forever.
