Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo explains why Antoine Griezmann will not join Man United

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted that Antoine Griezmann will not join Manchester United amid numerous reports of an imminent move to Old Trafford for the Frenchman.

Griezmann, when asked about rumours suggesting potential move to Old Trafford, made it clear that he was happy at the Vicente Calderon.

However, despite the 25-year-old seemingly pledging his allegiance to Diego Simeone, it was later reported by Miguel Delaney that a verbal agreement, along with a weekly wage and shirt number, had been established between Man United and Atletico for the striker’s services.

But Cerezo, speaking to Minuto #0, was adamant that the striker was going nowhere.

“I don’t know what the interest from Manchester [United] will be,” he said. “I can say that Griezmann will be an Atletico player for a long time.”

Whether recent reports of a verbal agreement between the two clubs are accurate remains to be seen, and Cerezo’s remarks – alongside Griezmann himself making it clear that he is indeed happy at Atletico – cast doubt over a potential move for the Frenchman.

That said, the confluence of Diego Costa’s sudden desire to leave Chelsea and reports of an imminent move to Old Trafford for Griezmann suggests that Simeone could be lining up a bid – using the money gained from selling Griezmann – for the Spaniard, and such a notion was reinforced by Simeone insisting that he would not prevent the 25-year-old from leaving in the summer.
