Antonio Valencia insists he didn’t have to think twice about signing a new contract at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho.
The club confirmed this week that a clause has been triggered on Valencia’s current deal, extending his stay at Old Trafford until at least June 2018.
He’s been one of Man United’s most consistent performers this term, kickstarting his career under Mourinho, and it’s great to hear him in great spirits as he sets himself a host of targets to achieve with the team.
“I’m really happy,” Antonio declared. “I think it’s the third time that I have renewed my contract here at the club. On each occasion, everything has run smoothly and there have never been any problems.
“It’s always a pleasure to renew because I love this club and my family are happy here. So when I was asked to sign a one-year extension, I didn’t have to think twice.
“There are still a lot of things to achieve,” he continued. “I’m missing a Champions League, I’d like a few more Premier League titles and some more silverware, too. I’d love to keep on winning things at Manchester United and I’ll work as hard as I can to make this happen because I’m very happy here.
“We are on a good run at present. Confidence is high in the group and we are growing as a team,” he said. “I think we were a little unlucky against Liverpool as the game was there for the taking, but that’s football for you. I think we are on the right track at the moment.”
He wasn’t able to establish himself in the side under Louis van Gaal, but under Mourinho he’s been progressing nicely and has earned himself the status of one of the best right-backs around.
Hopes are he can maintain his impressive form as he’s been a vital member of the squad and will need to be on top of his game as United look to close the gap on the top four.
