Bastian Schweinsteiger sends a message to Manchester United supporters

Bastian Schweinsteiger had sent a message of gratitude to supporters for their support following Manchester United’s 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fourth round.

The German, making his first start in over a year, recovered from a rusty opening ten minutes and quickly took complete control of proceedings at the base of midfield.

He capped off a commanding display with a sumptuous assist for Man United’s opener before finding the net after 81 minutes.

Schweinsteiger was quick to express his delight on social media after the game.

The story of Schweinsteiger this season is a tale that any professional can learn from. Most high-profile individuals – especially World Cup and Champions League winners – would have immediately moved on after being banished from the first team, but the German rolled up his sleeves and set about reasserting himself on the first team.

He started the 2016/17 campaign training on his own, always maintaining the same work ethic and support for the team, before finally forging his way back into the first team, despite Mourinho insisting over the summer that the German was not part of his plans.

And then came his reward: a chance to start in the first team – a chance to remind the watching world of what he can still offer. It was a sight to behold and, more importantly, a potent reminder to the many players out there struggling to assert themselves on the first team.
