Anthony Martial has been once again left frustrated by Jose Mourinho’s managerial decisions at Manchester United after being left on the bench for the 0-0 draw with Hull City.

The 54-year-old confirmed that Martial would start against Wigan Athletic and made it clear that a strong performance would be rewarded with another chance to start against Hull.

However, despite what was a powerful performance, Mourinho claimed that Martial had done enough to be on the bench against Marco Silva’s side, but not enough to start.

And according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker, Martial has grown frustrated with the Portuguese after being once again left out.

The 20-year-old’s first season at Old Trafford was almost dreamlike. He was, until Marcus Rashford burst on the scene, Man United’s only notable attacking threat, always there on the left hand side, ready to inflict damage on whoever dared to mark him.

This season, however, has been remarkably different. The ensure complexion has changed under Mourinho: several players are fighting for limited spots, and the competition is evidently fierce.

The boss, when asked to explain why he dropped Martial, noted that he had to choose Henrikh Mkhitaryan – the side’s best player against Wigan, according to Mourinho – over the Frenchman. A ruthless decision, in many ways, but also indicative of the immense competition for places at Old Trafford this season, and Martial – unlike last year – will have to fight for his place in the coming months.
