Keylor Navas responds to David de Gea’s Real Madrid transfer reports

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has responded to reports linking David de Gea with a move to the Bernabeu, insisting that he will “compete with” whoever comes.

The Costa Rican was reportedly involved in a potential swap deal ahead of David de Gea‘s impending move to Madrid back in August 2015, but the entire process went beyond the transfer window deadline and both keepers ended up staying put.

Madrid have reportedly continued to express an interest in securing De Gea’s signature, despite the Spaniard insisting he was happy at Old Trafford.

And Navas, speaking on El Larguero, made it clear that he would fight for his place if any new addition came in.

“Honestly, if another goalkeeper comes, I am not thinking about giving up. Whoever comes I will compete with and I will try to do my best. Furthermore, I can learn from the others as I am learning from Kiko, from Ruben [Yañez] and the goalkeeper from Castilla… because if I learn I will be better.”

I will always have something of a soft spot for Navas – a man Madrid remorselessly tried to use in the deal for De Gea, seemingly without much of his consent or involvement, kind of like when the gypsies give Tommy and Gorgeous George a dog along with the caravan they bought in Snatch.

On a more serious note, one can’t imagine why De Gea would want to leave a club clearly moving in the right direction under Jose Mourinho – a club that, unlike Madrid, would stick with him throughout any rough patch he encounters.
