Antoine Griezmann’s image adviser insists Man United move would be ideal

Antoine Griezmann’s image advertiser has insisted that a move to Manchester United over the summer would be the ideal scenario in marketing.

It was reported last week that a deal between Atletico Madrid and Man United had been agreed for Griezmann ahead of a summer move.

United, not long after the news started to circulate, were quick to confirm these reports as false, but speculation over a potential deal continues to thrive.

And Griezmann’s image advisor, speaking to So Foot magazine, admitted that a move to United would be excellent in marketing terms.

“When I read articles on a hypothetical transfer to Manchester United, I have to say this would be the ideal scenario in marketing,” he said.

“He would play for the same club as Beckham, his idol, with the same legendary number 7 in the back.”

The idea that a deal between two clubs could emerge due to nothing more marketing potential would, to the footballing romantic, come across as relatively disconcerting.

Then again, this is the world we live in: football at this level is no more for “the people” than Trump’s America. The beautiful game has been commodified, reduced to a series of deals and fiscal agreements between billionaires and mega-companies.

This may be a difficult thing to come to terms with, but this is the reality we face. And one has to admit that, from a marketing perspective, the idea of Griezmann wearing the long-sleeved No.7 shirt at Old Trafford – just like his idol David Beckham did many years ago – is indeed a tantalising prospect.
