Gary Neville reacts to Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City

Gary Neville has reacted to Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League, noting that Jose Mourinho’s men coped well with the pressure heading into the encounter.

The combination of Arsenal and Liverpool losing on Saturday and a galling 0-0 draw with Hull City during the week ensured that Man United simply had to take three points from the game against Claudio Ranieri’s side.

And Mourinho’s men duly delivered, romping to a convincing away win with an eight minute spell of goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Juan Mata either side of half time.

And Neville, speaking after the game, claimed that United’s win places them in an excellent position to mount a challenge on the top four.

“There was a lot of pressure on United coming into this game, dropping points in midweek,” he said.

“But with Arsenal and Liverpool both losing yesterday, it [the win] does give United a chance to get close to the Champions League spots with Watford at home next weekend.”

Mourinho’s men now lie just one point behind Liverpool, two behind Arsenal and five behind second-placed Tottenham Hostpur. They are, contrary to popular opinion, still very much in the hunt for not just Champions League qualification but perhaps even second spot.

Spurs are, after all, a bit, well, ‘Spursy’; capitulations against Watford and Chelsea demonstrated that, for the tenth year in a row, Arsene Wenger’s formula doesn’t work at Arsenal; Liverpool are entering a gloomy nadir under Jurgen Klopp; and Manchester City have resorted to relying on a 19-year-old (not that United did that last season, or anything).

Anybody below Chelsea can falter over these next few months, and supporters will hope that Mourinho’s men can pounce at the vital time.
