Manchester United will go into Saturday’s game with Watford full of confidence following last weekend’s dismantling of Leicester City.
A masterclass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan at No.10, ably supported by Juan Mata on the right hand side, condemned the champions to an emphatic 3-0 defeat.
The result, coupled with Liverpool’s defeat at Hull City, means that a win on Saturday would take Man United up to fifth spot for at least a few hours.
With that in mind, here is a potential XI for the clash with Walter Mazzarri’s men.
There are few better sights than Mkhitaryan and Mata in perfect tandem, skipping through defenders at will, happily shifting the ball around the pitch until, eventually, the opponent just gives up out of sheer exhaustion. This was Christian Fuchs last Sunday: one moment he was after Mata, the next he was after Mkhitaryan, and then he was watching Kasper Schmeichel pick the ball out of the net. They were simply irresistible as a pair, and Jose Mourinho will want to hand them another chance to wreak havoc against Watford.
Anthony Martial recently confirmed that, despite widespread speculation, he was happy at Old Trafford and committed to his endeavours under Mourinho and with this potentially harmful precariousness now dispelled, it feels like an ideal time to hand the Frenchman a chance to cause some damage on the left hand side.
It could be a chance for United fans to see the triple threat of Mata, Mkhitaryan and Martial all start together. Yes please Jose.
