MARCA’s front page is all about David de Gea and Real Madrid

On Wednesday we brought you reports from Spanish newspaper MARCA about how Real Madrid were lining up another summer move for Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

Today on Thursday morning, there is another update as the offensive from Los Blancos begins in earnest as far as the press are concerned with De Gea’s face donning a full front page splash in MARCA.

“Operation De Gea 2” is the caption with the supporting article on repeating the story on Wednesday of a supposed €65m release clause being active in his contract. Thibaut Courtois is named as an alternative and MARCA are under no illusion of how difficult it will now be to sign De Gea, no matter how much money is thrown at United.

The ball was firmly in Real Madrid’s court back in the summer of 2015 when De Gea’s contract was running low and they were making a big move for him. Unfortunately for them, a dodgy fax machine and a real lack of urgency saw them run out of time on deadline day – Dave stayed.

Since then, De Gea has gone on to sign a new deal at Man United and Jose Mourinho has come in to begin his revolution at the club. Prior to Jose’s arrival, De Gea stuck at it through three years of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal – at that time, no fan could begrudge him wanting to leave but times have changed. Madrid have missed their golden opportunity because United are building something special right now and De Gea is a key part of that.

Will Real Madrid make a move for him this summer once again? It really wouldn’t surprise me but with a big contract behind him and Mourinho in charge, what are the chances he’ll sell one of his best players to a club he was forced out of? I’ll let you be the judge of that.
