Henrikh Mkhitaryan wins January goal of the month for Manchester United

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s wonderful counter-attack goal against Wigan Athletic has been named Manchester United’s goal of the month for January.

The goal saw Mkhitaryan pick up the ball inside Man United’s half before striding forward and passing to Anthony Martial before sprinting into the box to finish the move with a clinical touch in front of goal.

It was a proper United goal with free flowing, fast counter-attacking football and absolutely deserved to be named the best goal we scored in January.

Mkhitaryan is the real deal isn’t he? I knew he would be good but seeing him play, especially in the No.10 role, is ace. We’ve got nobody else who thinks like Mkhitaryan does on the ball, not with the same attacking speed at least. Juan Mata is brilliant but Henrikh increases the tempo of our play so much which is absolutely crucial.

United have been creating chances left, right and centre all season but our finishing has been poor and I think Mkhitaryan is leading the way in that respect too. Yes he has missed some golden chances but he’s clinical in front of goal and fills you with a real confidence whenever he’s got a chance that it will be a goal. That’s what you want as a fan.

The Armenian midfielder’s goals against FC Zorya Luhansk, Tottenham Hotspur, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Leicester City have all been wonderful in their own ways and he’ll no doubt score a few more by the end of the season.
