Jose Mourinho totally convinced Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho is totally convinced Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay at Manchester United for another season.

Ibrahimovic has certainly lived up to his reputation and exceeded expectations having scored 20 goals already this season and if he continues in the same vein he could well hit 30 goals in his first campaign, just like Robin van Persie did when he signed from Arsenal.

At 35, Ibrahimovic is in the twilight of his career but Mourinho speaks so effervescently of the big Swedish striker and is completely sure he’ll be at the club for at least another year.

“I don’t think his contract will be signed, but I’m totally convinced he is going to stay,” Mourinho said.

“He came with the intention to stay two years but in the minds of everyone the first year is going better than every expectation, he knows we are going to try again to improve next season and try to share with him in a fantastic way probably the last year of his career at the highest level.

“So I’m convinced that he’s staying, he’s adapted to the club, to the situation, I don’t see any problem with his family.

“I gave him the possibility of an extra day off to go to Sweden, he doesn’t want it, so I’m totally convinced he is going to stay.”

I’d be very surprised if Ibrahimovic wasn’t here next year as well. You can see just how much of an impact and influence he’s had at the club; his confident, cocksure attitude looks infectious and those players around him are starting to absorb his winning mentality, something which has diminished at United in recent years.

Having Ibrahimovic around is about more than just goals. It’s how he helps the younger players around him, how much he contributes as a leader and how much the other players and manager can depend on him. I’d love to see him stay at least one more year.

Goalscorers like Ibrahimovic are rare in modern football, especially ones who can make it look so easy, and Mourinho wanting to keep hold of him makes absolute sense as far as I am concerned.
