Real Madrid president Florentino Perez publicly adresses David de Gea speculation

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has publicly addressed speculation linking David de Gea with a move to the Bernabeu this summer, insisting everyone is really happy with the way Keylor Navas is playing at this given time.

De Gea was moments away from a move to Spain back in August 2015 but the move fell through after Madrid failed to submit all relevant paper work before the transfer window shut.

It has been widely reported over the week that Zinedine Zidane has reignited the club’s interest in securing the Spaniard’s signature ahead of the summer but Perez was quick to deny these reports, insisting Navas was performing an excellent job at the Bernabeu.

“Someone is messing around there with De Gea,” he said.

“We’re not going to deny everything that comes out about transfers. We won’t work on any signing until the end of the season. Everyone is really happy with Keylor Navas.”

One thing that supporters have ignored during this seemingly never ending De Gea to Madrid saga is the role Navas plays. Everybody has seemingly assumed that De Gea would slide straight into the starting line-up if he arrived at Madrid, but it is perhaps worth noting that Navas – Madrid’s first choice for almost three years now – would not go down without a fight.

He has been a ruthlessly reliable influence at the Bernabeu, notably avoiding any major blunders or radical dips in form, and De Gea would have to work hard to consolidate his starting place should he decide to leave.
