Manchester United’s Tahith Chong set to undergo knee surgery

Manchester United’s Tahith Chong is set to undergo knee surgery on Monday which is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season at least.

Chong, 17, suffered a serious knee injury playing for Man United’s U18s in January and surgery is required for him to begin his rehabilitation which is a cruel blow for a wonderfully talented player.

No return date is known for Chong but all he can do, just like Luke Shaw had to do last season, is concentrate on his own recovery and stay mentally strong.

Prior to his injury, Chong scored three goals and assisted eight in 13 appearances for the U18s in his first season since joining from Feyenoord. He was having a superb debut campaign, so this injury is a huge setback for him.

We’ll follow Chong’s progress keenly because he really impressed us just like Timothy Fosu-Mensah did when he joined from Ajax aged 16. Here’s hoping the injury will be nothing more than a setback as there are lots of youngsters whose careers have been ruined by early injuries.
