Manchester United have spoken to Monaco defender Fabinho about a summer transfer to Old Trafford, according to his father.
The side were heavily linked with a move for his services as he can play at right-back and in midfield, but a move did not finalise.
Jose Mourinho has deployed Antonio Valencia as his first choice right-back this season, extending his contract last month and claimed the Ecuadorian was one of the best in his position around the world.
Speaking about a potential move, his father claimed there had already been discussions with United as they remained pleased with Jose Mourinho’s work.
“We have been in talks with Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and approached by Barcelona,” he said.
“We like Manchester United and Mourinho’s work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City.”
Mourinho understands what Fabinho needs from their time together at Real Madrid and there’s no doubt he’s the right man to lead the charge this summer.
He was able to attract the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly to the club without Champions League football to offer and if he sets his eyes on the Brazilian, there’s a good chance we’ll see him in a United shirt.
