Jose Mourinho insists Zlatan Ibrahimovic was always going to make a massive contribution at Manchester United.
The big Swede came off the bench to secure a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup, which was his 24th goal of the season and his 18th in his past 20 appearances.
Mourinho was hoping to rest Ibrahimovic against Blackburn, but lacking a goal and not looking for a rematch, he turned to the 35-year-old to do what he did best, and deliver he did.
Speaking about his impact at the club, Mourinho claims he knew his main striker would produce the goods.
“I don’t know the number of goals [Ibrahimovic has scored], I don’t know,” he said.
“I knew that he would be a very important player for us. I knew that for sure.
“One more goal, one less goal, but I knew that the contribution would be massive for us.”
Zlatan has done a brilliant job of silencing his critics this season, as many believed he wouldn’t be able to deal with the intensity of the Premier League in the latter stages of his career.
He’s done more than everyone expected and we’re not even at the end of the campaign as he looks to continue his impressive run in England.
