Jose Mourinho explains why he keeps leaving Luke Shaw out of Man United’s squad

Jose Mourinho has explained why Luke Shaw hasn’t been able to make it into his matchday squads at Manchester United.

The Englishman has endured a tough season under the Portuguese boss and hasn’t been able to establish himself as a first-team player at Old Trafford.

Everyone is aware of his talent as he’s Man United’s best left-back and being left on the bench will be frustrating, but Mourinho claims Shaw will have to work hard as Henrikh Mkhitaryan did earlier in the season.

“He stayed behind in Manchester because I am playing with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, and all of them are playing the way I like a full-backs to play,” he said.

“Luke has to wait for his chance, he has to work better and better, knowing that I give nothing for free.

“When I give something for the players it is expensive for me, it is not cheap. They have to work really hard every day, they have to play well, so he has to wait and in this moment he is behind the others.

“Potentially he has many things that I like, but one thing is potentially and another thing is on the pitch to express all the qualities I like a player to express. He has to keep working like Mkhitaryan did for a long time.”

It’s a shame because supporters are fully aware of Shaw’s abilities, however, Mourinho knows how to get the best out of his players as we’ve seen with his squad this season.

Hopes are he can put his head down and hit the ground running because the quicker he’s able to cement his place back into the first-team the better.
