Jose Mourinho had a 23-man strong training squad at Carrington this morning for a final session ahead of Manchester United’s game against St. Etienne on Wednesday night.
Wayne Rooney trained as did David de Gea and Antonio Valencia who were both rested for the 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at the weekend. The only notable absentees were Phil Jones and Ander Herrera who are currently injured and suspended respectively.
Here is the confirmed squad as per ManUtd.com: De Gea, Romero, O’Hara, Valencia, Blind, Darmian, Shaw, Smalling, Rojo, Fosu-Mensah, Bailly, Mkhitaryan, Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Young, Lingard, Mata, Pogba, Fellaini, Rooney, Martial, Rashford, Ibrahimovic.
Man United might be 3-0 up from the first leg over St. Etienne but I fully expect Mourinho to put out a strong team on Wednesday night. United got very complacent in the second leg in the League Cup semi-final against Hull City and lost 2-1 because of it, Mourinho will not want that complacency to creep in again in France.
Mourinho has a press conference on Tuesday evening at 5.30pm where he may confirm some more team news but as far as the training squad is concerned, United are in a strong position with injuries and Rooney is at least training with the first-team again.
