Atlanta midfielder Franck Kessie has admitted that he dreams of playing for Manchester United at some point in his career.
The 20-year-old, following a promising loan spell at Cesena last season, has begun to assert himself in Serie A under manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Kessie, speaking back in September, voiced his ambition to feature under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in the near future, alluding to his life-long obsession with the club.
And the Ivorian, when asked about the Premier League, was quick to reiterate his desire to play for Man United.
“I like the Premier League and in particular Manchester United, the club I dream of playing for,” he said.
“Chelsea? That is also a big club, nobody would turn them down, but I dream of United.”
It isn’t often that professional footballers, whilst at a particular club, openly declare their desire to play for another side, but it is clear that Kessie sees Old Trafford as not just a hopeful destination, but indeed as one of the reasons – or perhaps the main – underpinning his everyday exploits in Italy.
He remains in the nascent stages of his career, and Mourinho would be reluctant to take a gamble on the youngster just yet, but the early signs are undoubtedly positive: a superb tackler, composed on the ball and not afraid to surge forward into space. United fans will be keen to see whether the Ivorian manages to achieve his lifelong dream over the next few years.
