Jose Mourinho has applauded Wayne Rooney‘s statement at Manchester United, claiming it should finally put all speculation at rest until the end of the season.
The Portuguese boss, speaking prior to the second-leg Saint Etienne clash, was unable to confirm Rooney’s future at Old Trafford as the Englishman had been heavily linked with an exit.
Reports have only intensified as the Chinese Super League closes this week as he’s been allegedly upset with his lack of game time under Mourinho, but he’s come out with a statement to put an end to the speculation.
Speaking about the situation, Mourinho insists Rooney has come out at exactly the right moment.
“He did it in exactly the right moment because I think this should be the last question about him until the end of the season,” he said.
Mourinho will be delighted with Rooney’s statement as he’ll be able to utilise his captain’s skillset while the club fight for silverware on four fronts.
After confirming he’ll feature against Southampton in the League Cup final on Sunday, Mourinho was full of praise for the Englishman, and Rooney will be set on cementing his place back in the first-team while the Portuguese boss is in good spirits.
