Jose Mourinho has confirmed Wayne Rooney will stay at Manchester United until the end of the season.
The Englishman has been heavily linked with an Old Trafford exit, as reports claimed multiple clubs from the Chinese Super League were interested in acquiring his services.
He has come out with a statement in recent weeks addressing his future at the club and Mourinho will be delighted as he’ll now be able to utilise his captain’s skill set as United challenge for silverware.
Speaking about Rooney in his press conference, Mourinho insists he’d love to have him at the club next season too.
“Until the end of the season, 100 per cent he is with us,” Jose said. “Next season, 100 per cent I’d like him to be with us but I don’t give you 100 per cent as always the player is very important. I am the kind of manager who likes his players to be happy.”
Mourinho may want Rooney at Old Trafford, but Rooney will want to be playing regular first-team football, especially as he enters the latter stages of his career.
Man United have a chance of finally moving out of sixth in the Premier League this weekend against Bournemouth as they sit within touching distance of the top four, and hopes are they can claim all three points as it’ll take them a long way.
