Jose Mourinho has explained his Manchester United team selection for the clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

He made four changes from the team that won the EFL Cup final for Man United against Southampton earlier in the week.

Luke Shaw returned to the side, and was alongside Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia in defence, with David de Gea in between the sticks, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were also back in the team.

Speaking prior to the clash, Mourinho opened up about his rotation for Man United’s busy schedule of fixtures.

“I spoke with the players after the final. I thought it was the reality of playing three competitions, lots of matches, playing against fresh opponents with time to rest and prepare,” he said.

“Now more than ever we need the squad so it is time for rotation, time for players who are not playing so much to be ready to step up and give us that possibility.

“It is not the game of Shaw’s life, but an opportunity to play, an opportunity for us to rotate some players and be fresh for Rostov.

“We felt vs Southampton the difference of a fresh team and a team with lots of matches. We are going to feel that every match now.”

Man United have a Europa League clash on March 9, the FA Cup Quarter-final against Chelsea on 13 March, a Europa League fixture on 16 March and a Premier League game against Middlesbrough on 19 March.

Mourinho has been very critical over the fixture congestion, but he’s done his best to rotate the players and keep them fresh.
