Hasselbaink and Cottee believe Manchester United are too dependent on Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Tony Cottee and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believe Manchester United have been too dependent on Zlatan Ibrahimovic for goals this season, claiming others need to step up and relieve the pressure on him.

Jose Mourinho’s side came to their seventh draw at home in the Premier League this season after Ibrahimovic saw a second-half penalty saved by Artur Boruc as the match finished 1-1 at Old Trafford.

He has scored 26 goals across all competitions and has been in top form, but many believe it’s a massive problem as Man United are too reliant on the Swedish striker.

Speaking about the situation, Cottee claims United need to find goals from other areas of the pitch.

“He has been fantastic – they have got to get goals from other areas,” Cottee said.

“The likes of [Anthony] Martial hasn’t scored as many, [Marcus] Rashford is a great young talent but has not been playing regularly so it is hard to get goals from him, and Wayne Rooney has obviously been in and out and injured as well.

“There is almost too much responsibility on Zlatan and, as a result, they were disappointing at the weekend.”

Hasselbaink also claims United need to remain clinical infront of goal if they’re to move from sixth place in the Premier League.

“Not enough goalscorers. The majority of the time it is Zlatan who has scored. They have played well in recent games – against Bournemouth they didn’t play the best football,” he added.

“But in their other draws they should have won. They have created a lot of chances in those games but they are not scoring enough goals at Old Trafford and that is the difference.”

He’s been incredible this season but others on the team haven’t been performing to the best of their abilities, failing to remain clinical in front of goal.

Zlatan is class and there’s no doubt he’ll only continue to score goals, but Mourinho will address the situation in hand before the big Swede takes his career elsewhere.
