UEFA release statement about FC Rostov pitch for Man United game

UEFA have admitted the pitch at FC Rostov is in far from perfect condition but said the game will go ahead as scheduled.

Jose Mourinho is furious with the condition of the pitch which led to questions over whether the Manchester United boss would attempt to get the game postponed like he did with the Man City game in Beijing during the pre-season tour.

However, UEFA dismissed that notion and Man United will now have to cope with the frozen pitch in Rostov.

An official statement from UEFA said: “The playing surface may not be in perfect condition, but has been deemed playable. The match will go ahead as scheduled.”

It was always a big ask to get a competitive game postponed and Mourinho’s luck is unsurprisingly out on this one, so he and the squad will have to manage.

This game in Russia is more of a challenge than it needs to be but that’s what playing away in Europe can bring you, especially in the Europa League. We’ve got a huge round trip travel wise plus a frozen pitch to contend with but a squad which should be more than capable of coping with those issues.
