Paul Ince: Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s ban could cost Man United a top four spot

Paul Ince believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s ban could cost Manchester United in their hopes of a Champions League qualification this season.

The Big Swede has been incredible at Old Trafford this season, scoring 26 goals across all competitions since his arrival in the summer, but he’ll miss Man United’s next three matches after being charged with violent conduct for elbowing Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings.

He found Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Man United’s only goal of the game against FC Rostov in the Europa League Round of 16, but will miss the FA Cup Quarter-final against Chelsea and Premier League clashes against Middlesbrough and West Brom.

Speaking about Zlatan, Ince claims it’ll be a big blow as United will miss their talisman.

“He’s not just a goalscorer, he’s a talisman for the whole team,” he said.

“The lads thrive off him, I think he’s been outstanding this season.

“I’m a bit gutted he’ll be missing the next few games because I think Man United need him at this moment in time.

“No one else is contributing goals.

“[Juan] Mata’s got a few [Anthony] Martial’s scored one or two.

“I think it’s going to be a big miss without him. Obviously going for fourth place is major for Manchester United.”

It’ll be a massive blow, but hopes are Marcus Rashford returns with a point to prove as he takes control of the central role in Ibrahimovic’s absence.
