Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka insists Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is the best coach in the world.
Karanka was Mourinho’s former assistant during their time together at Real Madrid and claims Pep Guardiola must win the Premier League title to prove he is the best.
Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford with a point to prove after being fired at Chelsea and he’s done exactly that, winning the EFL Cup and positiong Man United well in the FA Cup, Europa League and within touching distance of a Premier League top four finish.
Speaking about the Portuguese boss, Karanka claims he’s showcased he’s the best at Porto, at Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid and Man United.
“Pep is not the best coach in the world – the best coach in the world is Jose Mourinho,” he said.
“He has shown it at Porto, at Inter Milan, Chelsea and Real Madrid and Manchester United.
“He was the best [in Spain] and he still is the best.
“I’ve never worked with Pep, but Jose started this season with some criticism, but he has already won two trophies for Man United.
“Jose is the best for me. I think Pep has to win the Premier League to prove [he is one of the best].”
Mourinho has done a brilliant job at Old Trafford, and following a shaky start to the campaign, has proven what his Man United side are capable of.
Hopes are he can continue to guide the side forward as a Champions League qualification still remains number one priority at Old Trafford.
