Rio Ferdinand insists Paul Pogba has already shown glimpses of his progress at Manchester United, claiming we must be patient with his ability.
The 23-year-old has been heavily criticised this season after returning to Old Trafford as the world’s most expensive player as he hasn’t lived up to the expectations in midfield.
He has showcased his talent but has struggled to perform on a more consistent basis, which is why he’s come under scrutiny, even though he has actually performed well at times.
Speaking about the Frenchman, Ferdinand claims he has the potential to make it at Old Trafford.
“Paul is being criticised but he’s had an OK season at Old Trafford,” he said.
“We’ve seen glimpses of what he can do. It’s now about him putting it together consistently, over 90 minutes and a whole campaign. I’m certain that will come.
“Pogba is hammered for not defending and not scoring enough. United didn’t buy him to be a defender or to score 30 goals a season.
“They bought him on his form for Juventus, where he had a loose, almost free role in a three-man midfield. United invested in a creative player, somebody to come in, make chances and be the dictator of the team.
“I’m confident he will get there.”
Pogba has dominated the midfield in many of the games he’s played, orchestrating the play and creating chances while also completely shutting down the opposition’s forward movements.
He’s only at the start of his United career and at 23, has the potential to play at the heart of the team for the next decade, which will be a scary thought for our rivals.
