David de Gea and Ander Herrera called up to Spain’s national squad

David de Gea and Ander Herrera have both been called up to Spain’s national squad for their upcoming international fixtures against Israel and France.

Unfortunately for Juan Mata he has missed out on a place in Julen Lopetegui’s squad but that is good news for Manchester United in that he’ll now have a much needed rest during the international break.

Here is the full Spain squad:

Herrera has been excellent for Man United this season and is certainly one of the most improved players under Jose Mourinho in a newly found defensive midfield role. As Spain rely so heavily on Sergio Busquets, it was that positional change which has allowed Herrera to shine.

As for De Gea, he is now Spain’s undisputed No.1 goalkeeper with Iker Casillas off the scene and he will be for years to come. It’s an important point to make because had he still not been Spain’s first choice then the likeliness of him moving back to Madrid would happen sooner rather than later to help make that happen.
