Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard named in BBC Team of the Week

Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard have received a place in BBC analyst Garth Crooks’ ‘Team of the Week’ following Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough in the Premier League.

The Ecuadorian, making his third appearance in less than a week, capped off another indefatigable display at right wing back with a goal in injury time to wrap up the three points for Jose Mourinho’s men.

Lingard dazzled supporters with an effervescent display in attacking midfield and claimed his fifth goal of the season in the 62nd minute, launching the ball past Victor Valdes into the top corner.

The pair were duly recognised for their endeavours in Crooks’ Team of the Week.

This was Valencia’s first goal of the season, and it perfectly captured the nature of his campaign under Mourinho. Even after three 90 minute stints, all played at a furious temp over a six day period, the 31-year-old chased down a lost cause and forced Valdes into an error (either that or United still have a deal of some sort with the Spaniard).

And then there was Lingard, liberated by Jose Mourinho’s three-at-the-back approach, turning inside and linking up with the likes of Marcus Rashford all game. Middlesbrough simply couldn’t handle him.
