Phil Jones was taken out of the England squad after picking up an injury in training before the clash against Germany for Wednesday’s friendly in Dortmund.
The 25-year-old was on the right direction to make his first international appearance since November 2015, but has been let down by injuries once again after he had been forced to withdraw after suffering his latest knock in training.
He deserved to be included in the squad after playing a big role under Jose Mourinho this season and hopes are it’s nothing serious as it’ll be a massive blow to have him on the sidelines while United face a busy schedule of fixtures.
A Football Association statement read: “Phil Jones has been released from the England squad after picking up an injury in training ahead of this evening’s trip to Germany. The Manchester United defender has returned to his club and will not be part of the group that flies to Dortmund this evening.
“There are no immediate plans to call up a replacement but, with Gary Cahill suspended for Sunday’s game against Lithuania, Gareth Southgate will assess his options following tomorrow’s match.”
Man United face West Bromwich Albion on April 1st in their first game after the international break and there should be an update on the extent of his injury coming soon.
Gareth Southgate is yet to name a replacement for Jones and he’ll be gutted that he wasn’t able to make his mark on the England side.
