Antoine Griezmann issues a statement over his Atletico Madrid future

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann issued a statement regarding his future in Spain, claiming there’s no reason for him to move elsewhere.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Frenchman at the end of the season, with Griezmann allegedly at the top of Jose Mourinho’s transfer list as the marquee signing to bring the club to the top of European football.

Reports claim Mourinho has been prepared for a £86 million move, which will trigger the Griezmann’s release clause, but the 26-year-old has rubbished claims.

Speaking about his future, Griezmann believes it’s unlikely that he’ll leave Atletico.

“I do not want to leave Atletico (whether for) Paris, China, USA, Russia or elsewhere,” he said.

“My future? I only care about the field, I feel good in Madrid, why should I change that?”

He’s scored 79 goals in 147 games for Diego Simeone’s side since making a £24 million move from La Real in 2014 and is now one of the highest rated forwards in football.

Mourinho was able to sign the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly without Champions League football to offer and there’s a good chance that if Griezmann is a top target, we could see him in a United shirt as the Portuguese boss has proven to be very persuasive.
