Tiemoue Bakayoko interested in Man United if they qualify for the Champions League – report

Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko will contemplate a move to Manchester United if they qualify for next season’s Champions League, according to reports.

It was reported earlier in the season that Jose Mourinho had expressed an interest in securing the midfielder’s signature following a series of powerful performances under Leonardo Jardim.

The Portuguese, wary of finding a replacement for Michael Carrick, has placed emphasis on signing a midfielder this summer, with Paris Saint Germain’s Marco Verratti also reportedly on his radar.

And according to M.E.N’s Ciaran Kelly, Bakayoko will consider a move to Old Trafford over the summer if Mourinho’s men claim a Champions League spot in May.

Finding an adequate replacement for Carrick may be impossible. There aren’t many players that can offer the same level of equanimity and poise at the core of midfield, and landing Bakayoko would not fill the void left by the Englishman in any sense.

What he could offer, however, is what Morgan Schneiderlin failed to produce during his time at Old Trafford: raw, unadulterated power in midfield, accompanied by a superb sense of awareness of what surrounds him at all times. Such an influence has been salutary for Monaco in this year’s Champions League, and his presence – assuming Man United do reach the Champions League – could be crucial for when it comes to playing big games away from home in Europe.
