Manchester United fans disappointed with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance against West Brom

Manchester United fans were left underwhelmed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s performance during their side’s 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

The Armenian, deployed at No.10, was charged with the task of deciphering West Brom’s rigid back four but struggled to generate much space going forward all afternoon.

He was presented with a golden chance to hand Man United the lead in the second half when he found himself with only Ben Foster to beat, but his chipped effort was comfortably palmed away.

United fans were quick to vent their frustration at the 28-year-old, who was withdrawn after 74 minutes, in the wake of another galling home draw.

It is indeed no coincidence that a poor Mkhitaryan display complimented a poor overall attacking display from Jose Mourinho’s men. The Armenian displayed plenty of desire to force the issue but, with little help from midfield or out wide, he was stifled at every turn, seemingly inundated by West Brom’s regimented pressing.

Mourinho knew that Tony Pulis would look to make life difficult for the home side, placing men behind the ball and holding a firm shape. Mkhitaryan’s job was to crack the code, and he failed.
