Jose Mourinho comments on Luke Shaw’s future following Everton draw

Jose Mourinho has been reflecting on Luke Shaw‘s future at Manchester United following his side’s 1-1 draw with Everton in the Premier League, noting that he doesn’t have time as manager to wait for the youngster to develop.

The Portuguese, speaking ahead of the clash with Ronald Koeman’s side, publicly criticised the youngster for being far behind other first team members in terms of work rate.

And Shaw, in response, produced a powerful performance against Everton, relentlessly bombarding the left-hand side and winning a penalty for his side in injury time.

But Mourinho, when asked about Shaw after the game, was quick to note that the youngster would need to grow up quick to secure his future at the Theatre of Dreams.

It has been made abundantly clear by Mourinho, both publicly and privately, that there is a particular standard that the 21-year-old must reach if he wants to succeed at Old Trafford. And perhaps this whole exercise of naming and shaming before Shaw throwing him into the fray just a day later was all part of a plan to show the youngster what that particular standard is.

He now has something to work towards, to aspire to, in his attempt to salvage his United career.
