Jose Mourinho has contacted AS Monaco over the price of youngster Kylian Mbappe ahead of a potential summer bid, according to reports.
It was recently reported that Manchester United – or any other club, for that matter – would have to pay £130m to secure Mbappe’s signature over the summer.
The 18-year-old has been an effervescent force under Leonardo Jardim this season, claiming 19 goals in 33 games and earning a call-up to the French national side as a result.
And according to French paper Le10 Sport, Mourinho has opened talks with Monaco over a starting price for the talented youngster.
Comparisons with Anthony Martial will undoubtedly arise when it comes to discussing Mbappe, but it is worth noting that the two forwards possess notably different styles.
Martial, as we all know, comes alive with the ball at his feet, reaching his irresistible best when placed in a one-on-one situation with a quivering right back. Such a style can make him sometimes predictable, but when the Frenchman enters that unmistakeable flow on the ball there is little anybody can do to stop him.
Mbappe, on the other hand, espouses a far more subtle approach: his movement and instinct, accompanied by a level of raw space that few players can match, is what makes up his overall dynamic – which will, no doubt, only improve over time. Moving for him early may be a gamble, but Mourinho could end up reaping the rewards.
