Nemanja Vidic insists former Manchester United team-mate Michael Carrick is the kind of player every team needs to succeed.
The pair will be reunited with other members of the 2008 double-winning side at Carrick’s testimonial match on Sunday 4 June.
Carrick’s Old Trafford future has been up in the air as he’s in the final year of his contract at the club and reports claim Jose Mourinho has opened talks over a potential new deal.
Speaking about Carrick, Vidic has labelled him as a very intelligent team player.
“He has the kind of character which means he doesn’t put himself before the group, he’s very professional. He has all qualities that every manager and footballer would like to be around,” he said.
“I’m glad for him to have this night, he deserves it and I’m glad for him to have achieved what he’s achieved in his career.
“I think the players and others in football appreciate him a lot. When I think about winning and creating a good team you need to have certain players and Michael is one of those players you have to have in your team to be able to have a good group.”
Carrick has been a vital member of the squad, and although he’s been forced into enduring a lesser role in the latter stages of his career, he’s still been able to showcase his talent.
Many have noticed his massive amounts of talent too late, but there’s no doubt he’ll still be able to have a big impact on the squad.
