Jose Mourinho has provided an injury update on his Manchester United players ahead of their clash against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday 9 April.
Man United have a busy schedule of fixtures in April, and the task at hand is not helped by the fact that many key first-team players are currently sidelined with injuries.
They managed to extend their unbeaten run to 20 games following the 1-1 draw against Everton earlier in the week, but have now drawn nine times at home in the league and 12 overall.
Speaking about the situation, Mourinho has ruled out some players with long-term injuries.
“Rooney is not available. Young is injured and there is no more news, because with Mata, Smalling and Jones you already know we are speaking about old injuries,” he said.
Man United still have the chance to make the Premier League top four, but recent draws have just made the job much harder as they currently sit four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City in sixth place.
While Mourinho could be set to place all of his eggs in the Europa League basket, he needs his players to remain fit so he can field strong teams and keep the side in both competitions as they aim to get back into the Champions League.
