Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera insists he would like to play in the Champions League next season.

Jose Mourinho’s men sit fifth in the Premier League, four points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand and are also in a good position as they’re in the Europa League Round of 16 with a second-leg game to play at Old Trafford with Anderlecht.

He’s been a vital player at Old Trafford this season, cementing his place in the side and has proven that he’s one of Man United’s most important players, as we saw from his Man of the Match display against Chelsea, where he picked up an assist and a goal whilst zoning Eden Hazard out of the entire game.

Speaking about the side, Herrera claims United must always focus on improving their game.

“I like to demand a lot of myself because I feel I can give more, and more, and more to the team,” he said.

“I am happy and I think it is the right attitude. So far has been okay for me but I still have to show I can give more.

“The team will need me if I am on the pitch. I am a team player, I want to give everything for the manager and I don’t look back. I just look forward. The next month and a half is the most important time of my career. That is the way I think and that is the way I see football.

“Also, when everyone is telling you you’re having a great season, you’re having a very good game, you’re playing very well, I don’t think it is good for yourself so I don’t listen too much. I want to be focused on what is coming and that is very important. I want to play in the Champions League next season.”

Following the 1-1 draw at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium with Anderlecht, the side will now need to finish the game off at Old Trafford as they’re favourites to win the entire competition.

The Champions League remains our most important aim ahead of next season and Mourinho will need to rotate his players appropriately to ensure the side stand in a good position in both leagues.
