Anthony Martial was all smiles during Manchester United’s final training session ahead of Anderlecht on Thursday and didn’t for a moment look fazed or upset after more comments from Jose Mourinho.
The 21-year-old French attacker has been on the wrong end of some stiff criticism from Mourinho this season and was roundly told, in no uncertain terms by Mourinho, that he still had to improve.
Despite the situation he finds himself in, Martial looks to be getting on with it at United with a big smile on his face and doesn’t at all look like Mourinho’s comments are working in an adverse way.
Say what you want about Mourinho but for me his management style, brutal as it is at times, has been so necessary at United. Unfortunately for Martial, that’s seen him on the wrong end of some strong criticism this season but that has brought out the best of him – what Mourinho wants to see is that level of performance consistently.
Striving for perfection as a manager can go down one of two ways and plenty have folded under Mourinho and not responded in the way he’s wanted them to. However, I’ve got every belief that Martial will use it as a positive. As Jose said, he feels Martial can be great but he wants to see that more often.
