Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sergio Romero have all received a place in WhoScored’s Team of the Week following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter final.
Jose Mourinho’s men went ahead in the tenth minute after Pogba’s delightful through ball found Rashford on the left hand side, who duly squared the ball for Mkhitaryan to slam home his fifth European goal this season.
Anderlecht took the game to extra time through a Sofiane Hanni goal but Rashford, Man United’s brightest spark all evening, sent the home side through to the semi-final with a wonderfully taken strike in the 106th minute.
And Rashford, along with Romero, Pogba and Mkhitaryan, all received a place in WhoScored’s Team of the Week as a result.
It was a testament to United’s inner core strength that, in spite of playing far more games than Anderlecht this season, they were the sharper – and indeed completely dominant – side during the latter stages. Implicit in United’s approach was a sense of raw determination, bred by a tangible togetherness and collective spirit within the side.
And Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Pogba figured at the heart of such an approach, banging on Anderlecht’s door until the breakthrough finally came.
