Manchester United fans were quick to heap praise on Wayne Rooney following his performance during their side’s 2-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday.
The 31-year-old was handed just his second start since Christmas at Turf Moor, with Jose Mourinho clearly looking to keep Marcus Rashford fresh ahead of the Manchester derby.
And he duly impressed, combining smartly with Anthony Martial at the masthead of attack all afternoon and grabbing his first goal since January after 39 minutes.
Supporters, in response, took to social media to express their delight at what was a commanding performance from the club captain.

Playing for an entire 90 minutes over a month after his past Premier League start would have been no simple task for Rooney, especially in what promised to be a feisty contest against a Burnley side – more or less completely safe from relegation – with nothing to lose.
In fact, watching Rooney today, it became clear that the Englishman is starting to place more onus on playing with his head rather than his feet. His subtle movement, for example, aided by the buoyant presence of Martial, featured at the heart of his attacking display at Turf Moor. Anything he did was controlled, thought over and, on the whole, executed with aplomb.
