Manchester United fans furious with Marouane Fellaini’s red card against Manchester City

Manchester United fans were quick to vent their fury towards Marouane Fellaini after the Belgian picked up a needless red card during their side’s 0-0 draw with Manchester City on Thursday night.

Fellaini, quite literally seconds after being booked for a rash foul on Sergio Aguero, bundled into the Argentine again and, for no clear season, head-butted him to the floor.

Referee Martin Atkinson immediately reached for a red card and Jose Mourinho, as a result, will be without the 29-year-old for three games.

Man United fans didn’t hesitate when it came to lambasting Fellaini for what was a moment of real stupidity.

This was a moment of a madness, but something Fellaini can do – and has done in the past – just when the situation demands a cool head. The fact that the head-butt came just moments after he picked up a booking seemed to accentuate what was a pitiful episode of brainlessness on the Belgian’s behalf.

Mourinho, with very few options going forward and a number of crucial games coming up that required Fellaini’s steel, will most definitely feel like having a few words with the Belgian in the aftermath, one suspects.
