Jose Mourinho singles out Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard for extra praise following Swansea draw

Jose Mourinho has singled out Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard for praise following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea on Sunday.

Young was deployed on the right hand side of defence as Mourinho looked to rest Antonio Valencia and provided a notable sense of composure going forward.

Lingard produced a sprightly, dedicated performance on the right hand side but, as has become the norm this season, struggled to provide much end product in the final third.

But Mourinho, speaking after the game, was quick to praise the pair for invoking a sense of freshness into an otherwise languid home display.

“It was easy to see Ashley Young and Jesse Lingard were above the others in terms of freshness and sharpness and it was easy to see other players were in trouble but we don’t have others,” he said.

The aforementioned pair – aside from Wayne Rooney, who looked miserably out of his depth, and Luke Shaw – were the only players who hadn’t featured against Manchester City on Thursday and it showed.

Nobody else, save for Marcus Rashford, looked capable of producing the level of intensity required to dismiss a Swansea side that came to Old Trafford with a nothing-to-lose mentality, and Mourinho may have to count on them once more against Celta Vigo as Man United’s list of absentees continues to mount.
