It has been recently reported that Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, clearly unhappy with what has been a poor season for keeper Keylor Navas, had reignited interest in the Spaniard ahead of the summer transfer window.
Schmeichel – son of Peter, who made 393 appearances for Man United – has been at Leicester since 2011 and claimed a Premier League winner’s medal last season under Claudio Ranieri.
And according to sources at Sky Sports, United will opt for the Dane if De Gea does indeed chose to leave Old Trafford this summer.
This would be a wise time to move for Schmeichel: De Gea, it seems, will not waste another opportunity to descend on the Bernabeu and Schmeichel, in spite of what has been a comparatively average season for the Foxes, has been in sensational form this season, producing match-defining moments – such as that penalty save against Sevilla in the Champions League quarter final – in recent times.
And one suspects that, following a season of false dawns at Leicester, Schmeichel – along with many other talents – may be tempted by offers from elsewhere.
