Jose Mourinho has confirmed Luke Shaw will miss the rest of Manchester United’s season after suffering ligament damage in his ankle.
Shaw had to off after just ten minutes against Swansea at the weekend leading to real concerns over whether his injury could see him ruled out for the season and unfortunately those fears have come true.
Speaking in Spain, Mourinho confirmed: “Shaw has an important injury and we are waiting for one more opinion before the medical department decides what to do. But he is out for the season.”
If there was anybody in this current squad who deserved a little bit of luck when it comes to injuries then it is Shaw. After the turmoil he’s dealt with in the last 18 months, this is the last thing he needed and it throws his Man United future in doubt.
Mourinho has challenged Shaw to improve this season and while there was a response in some performances, others were left lacking and Mourinho continued to ask more of Shaw. Now that he cannot do anything else this campaign, it makes the job of proving his worth to Mourinho impossible.
I really hope Shaw isn’t sold because I still believe he can be United’s left back for a decade but I do worry we may well have seen the last of him in a United shirt if Mourinho is cutthroat this summer with him.
